Patrick Jack Ruffner, 70, of Florence, SC, passed away on Monday, February 12, 2024 at McLeod Hospice House. He was born in Reno, Nevada, a son of the late Jack Levon and Harriett Hazel Coe Ruffner. He is also predeceased by a brother, Brian K. Ruffner and a sister, Kitty Hawkins.
Patrick served in the US Army during the Vietnam era where he was stationed in Korea. He later served in the Army National Guard. He was active with Vietnam Veterans’ Post 333 and the VFW and American Legion and was always an active participant in Wreaths Across America. He also worked at West Point for the motor pool until he was transferred elsewhere. Patrick worked as a mechanic for his whole life and was a fleet mechanic at Freihofer’s and a service manager for Toyota. He loved nature, hiking, coin collecting, watching birds and feeding them and American History. He was a member of Tans Bay Baptist Church.
Surviving is his wife of 50 years, Laura Pettit Ruffner; daughter, Michelle Denise Ruffner; son, David Allen Ruffner (Ellen); brother, Herbert L. Ruffner; nieces and nephews, Stephen Gledura (Kim), Tiffany Lancaster (Mark), Jason Pettit (Sandra) and Nicole Gagliano (Steffano); and great nieces and nephew, Alice Lancaster, Emma Sophia Gagliano and Anthony Gagliano.
A memorial service with military honors will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, February 16, 2024 at Cain Calcutt Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 PM at the funeral home prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tans Bay Baptist Church Building Fund.
