IMC Robert Harold Wittmer, retired, US Navy, 68, of Florence, SC, passed away on Monday, September 11, 2017, at McLeod Regional Medical Center. He was born in Ft. Dodge, IA, the son of the late Harold Martin Wittmer and Mary Caffrey Wittmer. Robert retired from the US Navy after 22 years of service. He also retired from McLeod where he worked as a nurse for 20 years. He loved his grandchildren and playing golf. He is survived by his wife, Katherine Lynn Gordon Wittmer; two daughters, Christine Mae Wittmer of Columbia and Amy Crystal DiFrancesco of Summerville; four grandchildren, McKenzie Dawn Rose of Beaufort, NC, Joshua Eric Rose of Rock Hill, Maegan Renee DiFrancesco of Summerville and Mason Robert DiFrancesco of Summerville; one great grandchild, Riley Mae Bayer of Beaufort, NC; and a sister, Janet Stone of Lake City, IA. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Cain Calcutt-Stephens Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Bob was always bright and upbeat at work even when he was working through adversity and pain. I pray for his family. We will always have fond memories of Bob. He was an inspiration for all,

So sorry for your loss. Bobby & I graduated from high school together. I remember him as a really nice guy. He had a great career in the Navy - was a great husband, father and grandfather. Rest In Peace my friend. May all your waves be smooth.
