Obituary

Laveta “Pete” Irby Lewis, 91, of Florence, SC, passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2017, at her home. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late James Franklin Irby and Martha Pearl McGee Irby. She ran the candy counter at Woolworth’s Department Store between the 1950’s and 60’s. She was the owner/operator of Country Antiques. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 62 years, Bobbie Ray Lewis; and her siblings, Gordon Aldrich Irby, Jay Irby, Leibert Irby, Jim Irby, Theo Irby Smith and Mary Irby Lewis. Surviving are her son, Gordon Ray Lewis of Florence; nieces, Barbara L. (Jack) Rogers of Florence, Martha Smith Hayes of Jefferson, Lynn Irby Atkinson of Hartsville; nephews, William A. “Bill” (Kay) Lewis, Stephen F. Lewis and Tony Ray (Penny) Lewis, all of Florence, Richard Wayne “Ricky” Lewis of Bennettsville, James B. Smith and Michael D. Smith, both of Hartsville, and Dr. James Irby of Lake Norman, NC. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, December 8, 2017 at Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, directed by Cain Calcutt-Stephens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM, just prior to the service, and other times at her residence.
