Carl Warren Simonton, 72, of Longs, SC, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2018, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. He was born in Washington, DC, a son of the late Donald Roy Schaaff and Helen Tyner Schaaff. He is also predeceased by a brother, Chuck, and his wife, Nancy.
Warren was a very proud University of South Carolina graduate, “once a Gamecock, always a Gamecock”, and an avid Washington Redskins fan. He loved writing about his personal experiences and history as he perceived it, but he truly enjoyed telling a good story and being the life of the party. Warren called home many places, from Marietta, GA to South Orange, NJ to the New Jersey Shore and finally settling in the great town of Longs, SC.
He is survived by two daughters, Ali Waeschle and her husband Eric, and Sandra “Sammy” Williams and her husband Dan; one granddaughter, Charlotte, who affectionately referred to him as pop-pop; two brothers, Bill and Mike and a sister, Trish; nine nieces and nephews and countless caring friends from all across the country. He will be truly missed.
